It's A Crime To Lie To Congress?

Wow, Roger Clemens charged with lying to Congress.  Who knew?  As bad as lying to Congress must be, since they are charging him with a federal crime, don't you think Congress lying to the American people should be a crime?  We are lied to on almost a daily basis by our Congress.

Do you remember being told that the health care bill would reduce your health care costs?  LIE.  Do you remember being told it would reduce the budget deficit? LIE.  Do you remember, well I don't have all night. suffice it to say our Congress does things it has no power to do and fails to do some of the most important things it is supposed to do.  Of course the current, and even former members of the Executive Branch are no better.

I for one am tired of being lied to by Congress.  If there was a way to bring the Congressional liars up on charges, I would be all for it.  In fact, if there was a way to bring any of the lying elected officials up on charges I would be for that too.  We deserve better, or do we?  After all we were dumb enough to elect them in the first place.

Roger had one heck of a fastball.

Glenn Beck Stretches The Truth

Actually I like a lot of the things Glenn Beck says.  He usually seems to believe what he says and all in all appears to be an honorable person.  However, he recently made a statement that disparages the South and lately he seems to be doing that more and more at least by implication.  What he said that got my attention was that about ten years ago he was doing a show in the South and there was a delay getting it started.  He complained and was told the reason they were running late is that they were on colored standard time.

I've lived in the South for a long time and it has been well over 40 years since I've heard anything like that said.  People just don't talk that way anymore, if they ever did.  This is particularly true of anyone young enough to still be working.

However, assuming that Mr. Beck was dealing with someone of limited intelligence, it is doubtful that the person would have made such a statement to him.  People who disparage others due to race etc. generally don't do it in front of strangers.  They particularly don't do it in front of well known strangers who can go back and talk about them.

Finally, even if Mr. Beck found the one complete idiot who might say something like that to him, there was no reason to tell the story.  There is no place you can go that is totally devoid of people who define other races in a negative way.  Mr. Beck is all too willing to ignore the great progress in race relations that have been made in the South.  There are no professions in which Blacks are not represented.  From elected officials to police, to nurses and doctors Blacks are fully able to participate in all levels of society and that is as it should be.

Glen Beck needs to focus on how the federal government we have today is destroying this nation.  He can continue his love of Abraham Lincoln if he wishes, but it would be nice if he took the time to study history before spouting it to us.

Dear NFL, IT'S PRACTICE

So without much else to do I flipped on the TV and watched part of an NFL pre-season game.  Yes, it speaks to my desire for real football to begin.  It also is an indicator that I should be doing something better with my life.  Nevertheless, there I was watching what is essentially a practice game.  A practice game for which people have to pay full price for tickets.  A great deal for the NFL, and a finger in the eye of fans.

Anyway, during the aforementioned pre-season game, i.e. a game that will count for nothing in the final standings, the challenge flag came out.  Everyone stopped play, and the officials ran over to the camera and spent several minutes determining whether it was a touchdown, as called on the field, or not.

After the first 30 seconds or so it was all I could do not to scream at the TV.  It's practice for gosh sakes.  The outcome of the game means nothing.  Nobody will lose a job or keep a job because of this one disputed play in a practice game.

It's bad enough to be watching a practice game, but to have to wait while a meaningless challenge is decided is too much.  Dear NFL, during the practice season let's do away with challenges.  Thank you.

Government Protects Us From Roger Clemens

Every day we should arise and be thankful the federal government is out there protecting us from harm.  No, not from the thousands who enter our country illegally every day.  Not from those who want to dance on the graves of thousands at Ground Zero by building a Mosque.  Not from the flood of new taxes we will be facing.  Not from the incredible and wasteful spending.  The federal government, thank goodness, is protecting us from Roger Clemens.  Who?  The baseball player who may, or may not, have taken performance enhancing drugs.

Having failed to do their jobs in any meaningful way, Congress decided it was important to investigate baseball.  Baseball?  Yes, who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of man?  Maybe some of those baseball players used drugs.  Maybe some die hard fans give a rip.  Is this what our federal government should be doing?

It is beyond my limited abilities to describe the failures of our federal government without resorting to foul language.  Maybe Congress should take performance enhancing drugs.  Maybe they could actually do their jobs for the American people.  Then again, probably not.

But we won't have to worry about Roger Clemens destroying the image of our national past time.  Yeah, that's way more important than billions of wasted dollars and millions of illegal immigrants.  Sure, way to go Nancy.  Is it time for the seventh inning stretch?

Pelosi Investigates My Funding

Nancy Pelosi wants to investigate the funding of people who oppose placing a Mosque so close to Ground Zero in New York City.  Hey Nancy!  I oppose the Mosque, but nobody has sent me any money.  Please folks, if you are funding those who oppose the Mosque, send me cash.

I don't care if Mrs. Pelosi investigates that funding.  I promise to spend it on totally selfish items like some new stuff for the RV.  I'll have my web site professionally designed by someone other than the junior high kid who does it now.  I'll buy my wife an actual anniversary present and not just resend last year's card.

Investigate funding of the Mosque opposition?  What country do we live in now?  If you oppose the ruling party, then you are to be investigated?  This isn't racial profiling, it is thought profiling.  Hope and change has now morphed into Hope For Change.

First they say we are intolerant.  But if called on that, they say "some" who oppose the Mosque are intolerant. They say we are racists.  But if called on that, they say "some" who want the border protected are racists.  Using their logic you can demonize any position at any time.  There are always "some" who take a position for reasons most of us deem inappropriate.  Unfortunately the arguments of the left are too often reduced to name calling.

One More Mosque No Wal-Marts

You have to wonder about those who control the city of New York.  They are perfectly willing to allow a Mosque next to Ground Zero.  Kind of a dance on your grave, get in your face, kind of thing.  Lots of talk about tolerance and understanding.  Here's a thought.  Let's ask for a bit of that understanding from the Muslims.  There are whole Muslim countries that don't allow a Bible inside; one could only imagine what would happen if someone asked to build a church.

These same tolerant folks go nuts if you suggest putting a Wal-Mart in New York City.  You know, a place where customers could save money and there would be jobs.  But those jobs don't pay enough some say.  Beats no job at all I say.  But that's where we are.  One Mosque at Ground Zero and no Wal-Marts anywhere.  Is it any wonder the country is in such a mess?

JAYCO Denies Responsibility

FIRST I WROTE:
We bought a new RV about a month ago.  I checked it out six ways from Sunday, though I'm not exactly sure what that phrase means.  Most everything seemed to be working just fine.  Now if you have never bought a motor home just think of it like buying a house and a car attached.  There are a lot of systems to understand and you can lose the little things when figuring out how the big things, like AC, work.  I lost one of the little things.

That's not to say it was all my fault.  I just read the label and assumed the label meant what the label said.  Ooops!  My bad.  Yep, it is there today.  The sign on my radio says, "Sirius ready."  I looked up the word ready in the dictionary and it means pretty much what the entire free world believes it to mean: except for Jayco.

The best I can tell is that Jayco believes Sirius ready means the radio is ready for you to buy some additional parts so that it is really ready.  Hmmm.

So while I'm pretty well satisfied so far with the RV; just a note of caution.  If you are thinking of buying an RV from Jayco, don't believe anything until you try it out.  Of course that is pretty good advice for anything you purchase.

When I'm riding down the road not listening to Sirius I'm thinking bad thoughts about Jayco.  But if ready doesn't mean ready Jayco, then I'm pretty confused about that warranty thing.

THEN JAYCO WROTE:
Thank you for taking the time to contact Jayco Customer Service. Your comments and questions are important to us. I will pass along your thoughts to our sales department.

Jayco did not come up with the phrase "Sirius Ready", Sirius satellite did. It is not our intention to hide information from the consumer. When you purchase an aftermarket radio it will say Sirius ready right on them. This does not mean that all the components needed are internal of the radio. No, more parts are needed to get the system functional but they don't tell you that.

I am sorry to hear of your expressed dissatisfaction. If we can be of assistance in the future, please let us know.

Thank you,

Craig Newcomer
Customer Service

THEN I WROTE:
I did not expect Jayco to blame someone else.  I expected Jayco to stand behind the representations made both within the RV and by the sales representatives.  It is always disappointing when you pay a lot of money for a product and find that the company hides behind another company's failure.  I didn't buy a radio, I bought an RV.  If I had bought the radio at Best Buy and it said Sirius ready, I expect the salesperson would have provided me with all of the information I needed at that time.  Then I would know that in the their world, Sirius ready meant something other than Sirius ready.

The confusion, intended or otherwise, is that in some RVs, (Jayco or other brands) there were stickers indicating 6 months or a year of free Sirius.  This, combined with the Sirius ready sticker on the radio led me to the obvious if incorrect conclusion that the radio was, in fact ready for Sirius radio

Stuff happens.  When I found the TV had not been installed in the unit I purchased, I went ahead and took delivery assured that the TV would be installed.  It was, though there seems to be a connection problem from the antenna to the rear TV.  In that case I had the opportunity to see a potential problem and make an informed decision about what to do.  In the case of the radio, it simply was and is misleading.
