I Can't Take This Any More

Dear Coach Mullen:  We love you at Mississippi State University.  We desperately want you to stay and finish the job you have started so well.  We will pay you more, probably a lot more.  You know our strengths and weaknesses and possibilities.  They are what they are and while many things are improving, MSU will never be in Florida.

Every time some coach resigns your name comes up.  Now it is Florida and not just the Universityof Miami.  If that is your dream job, then go.  I can't take the stress of not knowing any more.  Future recruits have the right to know whether you will be their coach.  Current players need to concentrate on playing and not on where their coach will be in a few weeks or months.  The MSU football program needs stability to continue the improvement you have begun.  It was MSU that gave you this opportunity and you have seized it and earned your keep.  Whatever you do we wish you the best.

So, Coach Mullen, do what you must, but do it NOW.

Where Is Dan Going?

It seems that right after football season we have a new season with an entirely different, though related, sport. It is called Where's Dan Going? Never wanting to miss out on a good thing it seems appropriate to get in the game. So let's start another rumor. Something better than Richt to Miami and Dan to Georgia. Something better than Dan to any and every place that had a less than stellar football season.
So, hold on to your hats and listen up; Dan will stay at MSU. That's right. I have it from a very good source that Dan Mullen will remain at MSU. As Dan himself suggested, there are not many places for him to go. We at MSU are always darned proud of everyone and everything associated with our beloved school. That means we often believe other schools want whatever we have.

We are also somewhat insecure at MSU. We don't believe that we are as good as Alabama or LSU or Auburn or even Arkansas. The school up north is another matter entirely. As long as we don't believe that we are as good as some other schools, why would anyone believe it? Do you think Alabama was really afraid of losing Nick after last year's championship year?

I read that MSU will always be chasing the four who wound up ahead of us in the SEC West this year. Note the use of the word always. Why don't we just fold up the program and go home? Because we don't intend to always be chasing anyone. We intend to let them chase us for a change. Why not?

Nowhere is it written that Arkansas, LSU, Auburn or Alabama should have a better football team than MSU. Yes, they have more money. But money is no guarantee of success. As MSU continues to improve, the program will generate more money. Hard work, success, and a great attitude about MSU can and will prove to be much more important than money alone. It's not like we have lousy facilities. We have great facilities and they are getting better.

So to sum up let me say that Coach Mullen makes well over a million dollars a year and lives in Starkville, MS. I've lived quite well in Starkville for a whole heaping lot less than that. He is loved by a community starved for football success and one that puts little pressure on him. His program and techniques are working well.

So when the rumor mill heats up just remember that you read it here first. Dan stays at MSU. Enough said.

OFFENDED IN AMERICA

Dear friends let me make one thing perfectly clear, there is no place in the world where it is better to be offended than in America.  I mean, of course, the United States of America.  Only in America could someone be offended by the national flag and a 13 year old boy is told to take it off his bike.  Only in America.

Only in America could someone be offended by the nation's history and the names of schools, streets and buildings are changed.  Only in America could someone be offended by the mascot of a university and the rush to change supposedly offensive names is on.

Only in America could people who share the culture, religion and ethnicity of terrorists be offended at being scrutinized and we immediately began feeling up grandma and her 3 year old granddaughter.  Only in America.  Only in America to keep others from being offended we treat ourselves as criminals.  Only in America.

Only in America could we fight for people's freedom and safety half way around the world and refuse to protect our own border.  Only in America could we watch aliens enter daily and provide them with free health care, education and a plethora of other benefits. Only in America.

Only in America can people from other countries come here and be offended that we don't speak their language and we immediately require government documents to be printed in their language.  Only in America does the government not simply require aliens to learn the native tongue.

Only in America are we willing to trash ourselves in order to attempt to please the offended.  The sad truth is that there will always be people offended about something and if we wish to live in a fair and orderly society we better tell them to get over it. Only in America are the rights of the offended put first.

So America, I am offended.  I am offended that you don't use common sense and profile airline passengers rather than patting down aging nuns.  I am offended that you care more about obtaining government power than using it to protect us.  I am offended that you create new entitlement programs then tell me that you need to raise taxes.  I am offended that you are willing to grant the rights of citizenship to anyone who happens to be here.  I am offended that I am not in a class you care about offending.

Only in America does the offended rule.

NO MORE EARMARKS; NO MORE STARBUCKS

Want to make the American people really, really mad Mr./Mrs./Miss Member of Congress?  Go ahead, make our day, tell us that earmarks don't really cost much money.  Yeah, and a latte at Starbucks doesn't really cost that much either when compared to our overall expenditures, but when we have to cut spending it is one of many areas included in cutting our budgets.

Tell us that earmarks don't cost much.  Pretend that we don't understand they are used to buy your votes on much larger expenditures.  Act as if we are too uneducated to know that earmarks have been a ticket to re-election and traded in Congress like play money in a game of Monopoly.

So here's the deal Congressperson and Senators; the first time I see you standing in front of a new bridge or reporting on your web site how you helped get a new project for us I'm writing a check to the first credible person who is willing to take you on in the next primary election.

Why?  Because we are out of money.  Yes, I can't afford to pay for a new library in Maine and they can't afford to pay for a new road in my hometown.  We are out of money.  We have spent more than we can ever pay.  We have spent our children's money.  We have spent our grandchildren's money.  Stop!

The American people are awake.  It is not just greed that motivates us.  We know that if this nation is to have any future, the spending spree must stop.

Keep on doing what you've always done and you Congressperson will not get what you have always gotten.  You will not get re-elected.  Now stand up and represent your constituents by doing what is best for the entire country.  We, the voters, are watching what you do.  We don't much care what you say.

NO MAS CALIFORNIA

I am old enough to remember when all things new and fresh started in California.  Every new trend and fad seemed to begin in California.  The hippest music and surfing and movies all came to us thanks to California.  Whenever the news reported on something new happening in California, we knew it would be heading east.  This is, most unfortunately, a testament to how old I am.

Today California elects a retread flower child old man for Governor.  California contributes an arrogant old woman to the United States Senate.  California governs under the thumb of public unions.  Yes, today California has become an overspend, overtax, over regulate state that is driving business and tax payers to surrounding states in ever increasing numbers.

The result of bad government and backward looking leaders is simply that California cannot sustain itself.  Sooner or later it will come to the Federal Government for a bail out.  When that happens we must all stand up and say "No mas, California."  You can lift your noses at the rest of us.  You can sip your wine and discuss how the world should be green.  You can pretend your liberal ideas are working.  What you cannot do is all of that while putting your hand out to hard working thrifty Americans who you look down upon.

You hold us in contempt.  You dismiss our concerns.  You are unwilling to control your own spending.  You do not respect the laws of your country.  So, do not now; do not ever; put your hand out.  No California. No mas California.

Juan Williams Fired

You might expect that the Fox Network's most frequently seen liberal had been let go by Fox.  You would be wrong.  No, Juan Williams was fired by that bastion of tolerance, NPR.  Yes, these are the people who get some of your money to put out propoganda for the left.  Why is it that the people who most often extol the virtue of tolerance seem to be the least tolerant?

Juan Williams often takes positions with which I disagree.  However, I respect his opinions and appreciate the fact that Fox offers differing opinions.  Differing opinions do not seem to be respected by NPR.  Juan Williams told the truth about his personal feelings.  He added a variety of political correct statements, but they were not enough according to NPR.

Any funding for this group of liberals is as offensive to me as funding the Fox network would be to some.  I have learned, however, that my feelings don't count.  If I were only a Muslim or black or a woman or gay maybe my feeling would count. Actually I'm not at all certain that women can any longer be included in one of the special categories that liberals care about protecting.  There are lots of conservative women running for political office and they certainly are not accorded any special respect.

Want to know how liberals will protect your rights?  Take a look at NPR.  They take your money, schill for the left and thumb their noses at regular people.  They are just so much more sophisticated and educated than you poor dopes.  Join me and the rest of the unwashed in denying NPR any public funding.  Let George Sorros fund them; after all his positions are their positions.

Ole Miss Black Bear

Well it is finally settled.  The University of Mississippi has decided on the black bear as its on field mascot.  You might remember that in a move designed to not offend all those people who could care less about Ole Miss and offend those who deeply cared for the University; Ole Miss removed Colonel Reb several years ago.  Using the same logic they also quit playing Dixie.

Now we can enjoy the spectacle of the Ole Miss Rebels being led on the field by a black bear.  Let me go on record right now as saying that I am deeply offended by the use of the black bear.  Why must we inject race into everything?  Why couldn't they just be the bears?  Why does it have to be a black bear?  Maybe it should be an African American bear.

Is it a rebel bear?  What does the black bear have to rebel against?  Maybe being adopted as a mascot by a mediocre university running from its past.

Obama Attacks Chamber of Commerce

In the world of Obama, a truly "through the looking glass world" for sure, it is quite proper for the President of the United States to attack the Chamber of Commerce as an agent of evil foreigners.  These are the same people who made certain you could not tell where their contributions came from during the presidential election.  If foreign money was coming to them, well they just didn't want to know.

If this is an issue about which many Americans are concerned, I'll be surprised to say the least.  With the economy, and just about everything else the government has touched lately, a complete disaster it is more than amazing that the Democrats have chosen to attack the Chamber of Commerce.  Then again if they have nothing positive to talk about or even spin, maybe this is all they have.

A quick view of Hardball with Chris Matthews revealed he is down to interviewing an actor who participated in a GOP ad.  The purpose of the interview seemed to be that the actor really had no knowledge about the politician he was talking against.  This is a surprise?  I bet you could get hundreds of actors who have participated in all types of ads for politicians and products who are merely reading the words they have been given.  There truly seems to be no limit.

Lawyers know the old saw:  When the law is on your side pound on the law; when the facts are on your side pound on the facts; when neither is on your side pound on the table.  It has truly been a long time since we have seen so many pounding on the table.

You cannot vote for a Democrat and not be voting for Pelosi, Obama, and Reid.  It matters not how conservative the candidate is.  Electing a Democrat to any post will be taken as approval of the Obama administration.  If you approve, then of course vote for the Democrat.  If you don't, no vote for a Democrat is acceptable.

Government Stimulates the Dead and Incarcerated

There is some disagreement on whether the so-called stimulus bill actually stimulated much of anything.  Of course it did stimulate government spending, which by most accounts is not a good thing.  As a reminder, the government doesn't have any money.  They either take yours or they print funny money that devalues yours.  To make it perfectly clear; whatever hairbrained scheme the government comes up with it is a scheme you pay for.

In addition to government programs being less than effective they have one other little problem.  Government programs, as with any type of "free" money program, are subject to a fantastic amount of fraud.  Okay there is just one more problem with government programs, they are terribly inefficient.  Much of the money is stolen; much of it is given to the wrong people;  and too often even that small portion that actually is spent as intended helps almost no one.

Seventy nine thousand or so of the dearly departed were mailed stimulus checks from the government.  One wonders where the dead spent their stimulus money and of course we didn't know the dead could be stimulated, but that's another topic.  Just another example of your government at work.  And these are the folks you want to run your health care?  Are you kidding me?

A few million dollars was also sent to prisoners.  That was explained by saying that many of the prisoners were actually entitled to the money.  Excuse me all to heck.  How could someone who has violated the law and used our legal and law enforcement resources and is currently living off the taxpayers, be entitled to stimulus money?  Please tell me that doesn't make sense to you even if you consider yourself to be a liberal.

Congress Is Not A Fraternity

All we hear from the enlightened talking heads is that these tea party, right wing, candidates will have to change if they are elected to Congress.  They will have to compromise, and get along if they want to get anything done.  Yeah?  How has that been working for us?

Congress is not a fraternity and compromise is not a religion.  Of course you can compromise on the way to achieve certain goals.  What you cannot do is compromise your basic principles.  If the bus is being driven over a cliff you cannot compromise on the speed at which it travels.  There is no compromise; the bus must be turned around.  Our nation is rapidly heading for the cliff.  We cannot compromise on changing direction.

Those elected to Congress may be friendly or ill tempered; I don't care.  I do care about how they represent the conservative electorate who put them in Washington.  There are truly despicable people in Congress who will destroy this nation if not stopped.  However it is done; whatever steps must be taken;  this nation has to be rescued from those who either through ignorance or evil intent are well along in the process of its destruction.

If nothing gets done because our representatives refuse to compromise their principles, so be it.  This nation will be better off with nothing getting done.  At least we will have stopped the bus.

Nicky Diaz Go Home

In case you have missed the news lately, Nicky Diaz is the poor illegal immigrant who was forced to work for a rich white woman in California.  She was taking a job no "American" would do.  You know, one of those $23 per hour jobs for driving the rich white woman's children around and running errands.  Yes, it was no doubt hell.  Fifteen hours per week.  One wonders how she survived for nine years in this sweatshop.

Speaking of one of those jobs no "American" would do, I may have to differ.  Offer me $23 per hour for 15 hours a week and I'm your man.  It is such a shame that the rich white woman could find no "American" to do the job.  Of course she believed poor Nicky was in the country legally.  Why?  Maybe because she went through a legitimate employment agency or maybe it was the false social security number or fake driver's license.  Of course none of that is poor Nicky's fault.

It is not enough that our poor Nicky has taken advantage of the country and broken a variety of laws for a number of years, now she is having an impact on a gubernatorial election.  One has to wonder about Nicky.  For some reason after nine years she chose to confess her misdeeds to the rich white woman.  The rich white woman had to fire her at that time or risk breaking the law herself.

It was not enough for the loons on the left of course.  The rich white woman must be an evil person according to them and undeserving of holding a political office.  As a rather famous comedian once said, "You can't fix stupid."

The head of Homeland Security was on television last night and she couldn't say what would happen to our Nicky.  Nicky is in the country illegally.  She has admitted violating the law.  She may have influenced a major election.  The mere fact that the federal government has not taken action is another indication that we have a government that refuses to protect us.  Violate the law in Mexico (assuming you are not a member of a drug cartel) and you will wind up in jail or deported.  Violate the law here and nothing happens.

In conclusion, I ask that Nicky voluntarily go home.  Our government has neither the brains nor courage to protect us.  We are at the mercy of people like Nicky to do the right thing.  Pretty please, Nicky.

California Welfare

You just have to love the good citizens (and the many resident non-citizens) of California.  Even though the state is drowning in debt and people are leaving in droves, they still have plenty of money for food stamps.  To make it easier for the food stamp recipients they issue them debit cards, how thoughtful.  The good folks of California don't want the food stamp recipients to be in any way inconvenienced.

It seems that the good folks of California who are on the receiving end of the food stamp debit cards, don't just hang around the house searching the want ads for jobs.  No indeed.  These food stamp recipients are out living the good life.  They take those debit cards to Vegas.  The sky is the limit when it is OPM (other peoples' money.)

So we have the hard working taxpayers of California, whose main fault is electing idiots to run their state, working away just trying to make ends meet.  The food stamp recipients, on the other hand, are traveling the world on cruise ships and gambling in Vegas.  Only in America, or should I say only in California?

California Dreaming

Dear California voters it is now your turn to cast your ballots for Governor, Senator and a variety of other offices.  The great thing about this country is that you can vote for anyone.  You could vote for a sea turtle if you wish, and Lord knows I wish you had instead of the empty suits you have voted for in the past.  Once again you are afforded an opportunity to turn your state from certain ruin.  It is doubtful you will do this, but you have the chance.

If you choose to vote for "Call me ma'am" and the left over flower power child I only have one warning.  Do not come crying to the rest of this nation for a bailout.  You are not too big to fail; you are not too stupid to fail;(close call) and we are not going to save your bacon.

Most of the time you brag about your ability to be different.  That can be a good thing.  You thumb your nose at laws relating to immigration.  You regularly act as if you are a superior class of people.  (That you have in common with the northeast elites).  Yes, California revels in its ability to go a different route.

Dear Californians, we don't care if you go a different route.  We don't care if you drive your car off the cliff even though we've told you that is what you are doing.  No, we don't care.  But don't you ever come hat in hand to the federal government and expect the citizens of the rest of this country to bail you out.

Elect "Call me ma'am" and flower power and you are on your own.

Ole Miss Mascot Mess

Colonel Reb was ousted a few years ago by the powers that be at the University of Mississippi.  The playing of a small portion of Dixie was eliminated last year.  Now Ole Miss has shelved its mascot and fight song.  Why?  For the most politically correct reason of all, someone might (yes might) be offended.

It seems that Ole Miss has bought into the idea that we have a new Constitutional right.  Yes a new amendment must have been passed and now we have the right not to be offended.  But before you get all excited, rest assured that right is reserved for only some.

I am often offended by politicians, TV personalities and even Ole Miss.  Nobody cares though.  Maybe because I am just an old white man.  Add to that the last straw that I am also from the South.  So while others may be protected from possible offense, I am not.

The search for a new Ole Miss mascot has turned into a joke.  The trouble is that when you disrespect your past, there is no reason to give you respect.  Ole Miss would have been better off to educate their students about the past and remain true to their heritage.  They chose the path of least resistance.  They chose the path that required no character, no respect for their past, no honor.

Ole Miss is a university running from its past and running into an uncertain future of political correctness.

SORE LOSERS BAD FOR COUNTRY

People who choose to run for office in the United States generally decide to be members of either the Democrat or Republican party.  Of course they can affiliate with smaller parties or run as an independent.  While the rules vary from state to state, if you run as a Republican or Democrat you go through their primary election process.  If you run as an independent you normally have to obtain a large number of registered voter signatures to get on the ballot.

Then of course there are the sore losers.  They are the ones who choose to run as Republicans and when they are turned out by the electorate, decide to stay in the race believing I guess that the voters just got it wrong.  They had no such thoughts when voters put them in office.  Of course they might just have read the pre-election polls and jumped even before the primary.

Sore losers are conceited individuals who just don't like the voters' verdict.  They want another slice of the pie, another bit of the apple, a second chance.  Well dear friends there are losers in all sorts of competitive events who would like a second chance.  From football to bridge, when the game is over, the game is over.

From Florida to Alaska we now have candidates who want that second chance and are willing to play games with the system in order to get that chance.  Voters should turn these disgraceful candidates out of office as quickly as possible.  In most instances they have held on to power for such a long time they have come to believe it to be their right.  They do not own those offices.  The people own them.  We must send these old selfish ones home.  They no longer represent the people.

DEAR MUSLIM PROTESTORS

Some nut half way around the world from you claimed he was going to burn copies of the Quran.  Let's make a few things clear.  The guy is inconsequential in almost every sense of the word.  He would be burning books printed in America in a language you can't even read.  He wouldn't be burning any copies of your Quran that you have ever seen.  There will be plenty of them left.

Respecting the book is your right and probably your duty as well.  Asking others to respect the book is also your right.  Demanding that others respect your book is religious tyranny.

Jumping around shouting "Death to America" just makes you look silly.  It is also so yesterday.  At least come up with new slogans.  Take some advice; get a grip, get a life, get a job.  Honor your religion by setting a good example for others.  Try improving the lives of your citizens by establishing an orderly society.  Here's a thought; try respecting other religions.  Who knows they may return that respect.

You might even condemn those who execute Christians because they are Christians.  I know I'm going out on a limb here, but how about respecting life.  Surely you are taught to respect the creations of your God.

I'm thinking of downloading a copy of the Quran and then deleting it.  Will that drive you into the streets in protest?  Just asking.

It's A Crime To Lie To Congress?

Wow, Roger Clemens charged with lying to Congress.  Who knew?  As bad as lying to Congress must be, since they are charging him with a federal crime, don't you think Congress lying to the American people should be a crime?  We are lied to on almost a daily basis by our Congress.

Do you remember being told that the health care bill would reduce your health care costs?  LIE.  Do you remember being told it would reduce the budget deficit? LIE.  Do you remember, well I don't have all night. suffice it to say our Congress does things it has no power to do and fails to do some of the most important things it is supposed to do.  Of course the current, and even former members of the Executive Branch are no better.

I for one am tired of being lied to by Congress.  If there was a way to bring the Congressional liars up on charges, I would be all for it.  In fact, if there was a way to bring any of the lying elected officials up on charges I would be for that too.  We deserve better, or do we?  After all we were dumb enough to elect them in the first place.

Roger had one heck of a fastball.

Glenn Beck Stretches The Truth

Actually I like a lot of the things Glenn Beck says.  He usually seems to believe what he says and all in all appears to be an honorable person.  However, he recently made a statement that disparages the South and lately he seems to be doing that more and more at least by implication.  What he said that got my attention was that about ten years ago he was doing a show in the South and there was a delay getting it started.  He complained and was told the reason they were running late is that they were on colored standard time.

I've lived in the South for a long time and it has been well over 40 years since I've heard anything like that said.  People just don't talk that way anymore, if they ever did.  This is particularly true of anyone young enough to still be working.

However, assuming that Mr. Beck was dealing with someone of limited intelligence, it is doubtful that the person would have made such a statement to him.  People who disparage others due to race etc. generally don't do it in front of strangers.  They particularly don't do it in front of well known strangers who can go back and talk about them.

Finally, even if Mr. Beck found the one complete idiot who might say something like that to him, there was no reason to tell the story.  There is no place you can go that is totally devoid of people who define other races in a negative way.  Mr. Beck is all too willing to ignore the great progress in race relations that have been made in the South.  There are no professions in which Blacks are not represented.  From elected officials to police, to nurses and doctors Blacks are fully able to participate in all levels of society and that is as it should be.

Glen Beck needs to focus on how the federal government we have today is destroying this nation.  He can continue his love of Abraham Lincoln if he wishes, but it would be nice if he took the time to study history before spouting it to us.

Dear NFL, IT'S PRACTICE

So without much else to do I flipped on the TV and watched part of an NFL pre-season game.  Yes, it speaks to my desire for real football to begin.  It also is an indicator that I should be doing something better with my life.  Nevertheless, there I was watching what is essentially a practice game.  A practice game for which people have to pay full price for tickets.  A great deal for the NFL, and a finger in the eye of fans.

Anyway, during the aforementioned pre-season game, i.e. a game that will count for nothing in the final standings, the challenge flag came out.  Everyone stopped play, and the officials ran over to the camera and spent several minutes determining whether it was a touchdown, as called on the field, or not.

After the first 30 seconds or so it was all I could do not to scream at the TV.  It's practice for gosh sakes.  The outcome of the game means nothing.  Nobody will lose a job or keep a job because of this one disputed play in a practice game.

It's bad enough to be watching a practice game, but to have to wait while a meaningless challenge is decided is too much.  Dear NFL, during the practice season let's do away with challenges.  Thank you.

Government Protects Us From Roger Clemens

Every day we should arise and be thankful the federal government is out there protecting us from harm.  No, not from the thousands who enter our country illegally every day.  Not from those who want to dance on the graves of thousands at Ground Zero by building a Mosque.  Not from the flood of new taxes we will be facing.  Not from the incredible and wasteful spending.  The federal government, thank goodness, is protecting us from Roger Clemens.  Who?  The baseball player who may, or may not, have taken performance enhancing drugs.

Having failed to do their jobs in any meaningful way, Congress decided it was important to investigate baseball.  Baseball?  Yes, who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of man?  Maybe some of those baseball players used drugs.  Maybe some die hard fans give a rip.  Is this what our federal government should be doing?

It is beyond my limited abilities to describe the failures of our federal government without resorting to foul language.  Maybe Congress should take performance enhancing drugs.  Maybe they could actually do their jobs for the American people.  Then again, probably not.

But we won't have to worry about Roger Clemens destroying the image of our national past time.  Yeah, that's way more important than billions of wasted dollars and millions of illegal immigrants.  Sure, way to go Nancy.  Is it time for the seventh inning stretch?

Pelosi Investigates My Funding

Nancy Pelosi wants to investigate the funding of people who oppose placing a Mosque so close to Ground Zero in New York City.  Hey Nancy!  I oppose the Mosque, but nobody has sent me any money.  Please folks, if you are funding those who oppose the Mosque, send me cash.

I don't care if Mrs. Pelosi investigates that funding.  I promise to spend it on totally selfish items like some new stuff for the RV.  I'll have my web site professionally designed by someone other than the junior high kid who does it now.  I'll buy my wife an actual anniversary present and not just resend last year's card.

Investigate funding of the Mosque opposition?  What country do we live in now?  If you oppose the ruling party, then you are to be investigated?  This isn't racial profiling, it is thought profiling.  Hope and change has now morphed into Hope For Change.

First they say we are intolerant.  But if called on that, they say "some" who oppose the Mosque are intolerant. They say we are racists.  But if called on that, they say "some" who want the border protected are racists.  Using their logic you can demonize any position at any time.  There are always "some" who take a position for reasons most of us deem inappropriate.  Unfortunately the arguments of the left are too often reduced to name calling.

One More Mosque No Wal-Marts

You have to wonder about those who control the city of New York.  They are perfectly willing to allow a Mosque next to Ground Zero.  Kind of a dance on your grave, get in your face, kind of thing.  Lots of talk about tolerance and understanding.  Here's a thought.  Let's ask for a bit of that understanding from the Muslims.  There are whole Muslim countries that don't allow a Bible inside; one could only imagine what would happen if someone asked to build a church.

These same tolerant folks go nuts if you suggest putting a Wal-Mart in New York City.  You know, a place where customers could save money and there would be jobs.  But those jobs don't pay enough some say.  Beats no job at all I say.  But that's where we are.  One Mosque at Ground Zero and no Wal-Marts anywhere.  Is it any wonder the country is in such a mess?

JAYCO Denies Responsibility

FIRST I WROTE:
We bought a new RV about a month ago.  I checked it out six ways from Sunday, though I'm not exactly sure what that phrase means.  Most everything seemed to be working just fine.  Now if you have never bought a motor home just think of it like buying a house and a car attached.  There are a lot of systems to understand and you can lose the little things when figuring out how the big things, like AC, work.  I lost one of the little things.

That's not to say it was all my fault.  I just read the label and assumed the label meant what the label said.  Ooops!  My bad.  Yep, it is there today.  The sign on my radio says, "Sirius ready."  I looked up the word ready in the dictionary and it means pretty much what the entire free world believes it to mean: except for Jayco.

The best I can tell is that Jayco believes Sirius ready means the radio is ready for you to buy some additional parts so that it is really ready.  Hmmm.

So while I'm pretty well satisfied so far with the RV; just a note of caution.  If you are thinking of buying an RV from Jayco, don't believe anything until you try it out.  Of course that is pretty good advice for anything you purchase.

When I'm riding down the road not listening to Sirius I'm thinking bad thoughts about Jayco.  But if ready doesn't mean ready Jayco, then I'm pretty confused about that warranty thing.

THEN JAYCO WROTE:
Thank you for taking the time to contact Jayco Customer Service. Your comments and questions are important to us. I will pass along your thoughts to our sales department.

Jayco did not come up with the phrase "Sirius Ready", Sirius satellite did. It is not our intention to hide information from the consumer. When you purchase an aftermarket radio it will say Sirius ready right on them. This does not mean that all the components needed are internal of the radio. No, more parts are needed to get the system functional but they don't tell you that.

I am sorry to hear of your expressed dissatisfaction. If we can be of assistance in the future, please let us know.

Thank you,

Craig Newcomer
Customer Service

THEN I WROTE:
I did not expect Jayco to blame someone else.  I expected Jayco to stand behind the representations made both within the RV and by the sales representatives.  It is always disappointing when you pay a lot of money for a product and find that the company hides behind another company's failure.  I didn't buy a radio, I bought an RV.  If I had bought the radio at Best Buy and it said Sirius ready, I expect the salesperson would have provided me with all of the information I needed at that time.  Then I would know that in the their world, Sirius ready meant something other than Sirius ready.

The confusion, intended or otherwise, is that in some RVs, (Jayco or other brands) there were stickers indicating 6 months or a year of free Sirius.  This, combined with the Sirius ready sticker on the radio led me to the obvious if incorrect conclusion that the radio was, in fact ready for Sirius radio

Stuff happens.  When I found the TV had not been installed in the unit I purchased, I went ahead and took delivery assured that the TV would be installed.  It was, though there seems to be a connection problem from the antenna to the rear TV.  In that case I had the opportunity to see a potential problem and make an informed decision about what to do.  In the case of the radio, it simply was and is misleading.

Feds Continue Attack on America

Not since Sherman burned his way across Georgia has the federal government so openly attacked the interests of Americans.  In striking down the Arizona Immigration Law, the government both admitted they couldn't do the job and opposed Arizona assisting them in doing it.  It is as if the federal government wants to turn this nation over to a group of people who come to this country illegally.

Immigration is essential for this nation and the world.  Uncontrolled immigration will destroy this nation.  It is simple and straightforward.  No nation can support unlimited immigration.  The people in power must know this.  The only conclusion I can reach is that they are intending to destroy this nation.

Without the threat of secession by the states, the federal government is uncontrolled and uncontrollable.  It will be the death of our nation.  The unsustainable debt, plus takeover of financial institutions and health care are just a few of the ways your freedoms are eroding on a daily basis.

An all powerful federal government is currently on a path to destroy this nation.  What a sad legacy for our children and grandchildren.

Jayco And Sirius Ready

No No Nevada

I love Las Vegas.  I love their slogan, "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas."  Unfortunately for the United States Harry Reid stays neither in Vegas nor Nevada.  It would be hard to imagine a more uninspiring "leader" for the United States Senate or a group of Boy Scouts.  It would be hard to imagine a political figure more damaging to the United States.  Oh, well beside Obama of course.

Please my Nevada friends, for the sake of this nation, do not send Harry Reid back to Washington.  He, along with the administration and other liberals, is spending this nation into third world status.  I have always thought of Nevadans as pioneers and people who stand on their own two feet.  Harry Reid is creating a nation of dependents who contribute little or nothing to our future.

If you send Harry back to Washington I'll just have to find another place to do my gambling.  Mississippi comes to mind and it is a lot closer.

Unemployment Or Retirement

The U.S. Senate is scheduled to pass yet another extension of unemployment insurance.  They will use money they don't have to pay unemployment payments for over two years.  Would you hire someone who has been drawing unemployment for two years?

Unemployment insurance is a good thing and for six months or so it can be a bridge from unemployment to employment.  However, there comes a time when it ceases to be a bridge and becomes a way of life.

If you haven't found the job you want in six months or so it is time to take that next step.  Clean offices, cut grass, flip burgers, work two jobs, do something to get off your duff and be working.

One thing is for certain.  It is easier to find a job if you have a job.

The Self Destruction of the United States

SPRING SEMESTER - 2097

This three hour course will study the history of the United States.  We will explore why the United States was merely one of a long line of nations and nation states that began with noble ideals and ended when those ideals were corrupted by government profligacy.  We will only briefly touch on the leaders who brought down the country, but will try and develop a better understanding of the people and factors that both created and destroyed the nation in less than three centuries.

The United States, as you will learn, became a society unwilling to protect itself from those who would destroy it from without or within.  The destruction of the nation came quickly and oddly enough immediately followed a period when it was the most powerful nation on earth.  Within sixty years after what was called World War II, won by the United States, there was political, economic and military decline so rapid that it was barely noticed by the majority of citizens.

Attacks from without and within by religious terrorists were only partly responsible for the decline.  We will attempt to understand a concept known as political correctness which also seemed to prevent the adequate protection of the nation’s people.  An example of this political correctness might be that while the terrorists were all from one religion and primarily middle eastern, for fear of damaging individuals who met this profile, great effort was made not to investigate these individuals until after they had committed a terrorist act.

The political correctness went so far as to keep the government from even using the term terrorist.  While it seems difficult to believe now, many people died because of their unwillingness to identify and stop a known enemy.  Our course will discuss this seemingly unnatural failure of a basic human instinct; self preservation.

During the same period of time, early 21st century, government spending became enormous and unsustainable.  Health care, food, shelter, and many other goods and services were considered rights by the population.  In order to make certain that the populace were afforded these rights the government took more and more of the wealth of those who produced.  The obvious end result was less production of wealth.  This course will not only provide the factual data, but will attempt to understand the reasoning processes leading to the inevitable decline.

We will examine the destruction of health care brought on by passage of what was called universal health care.  Without going into great detail, it should be noted that this plan increased taxation and at the same time ended quality health care in the nation.  Within twenty years pharmaceutical manufacturers, physicians, and many in related fields fled to tiny nations who welcomed their creativity.

We will briefly explore their failure to control the nation’s borders which also contributed to the inability of the government to provide promised goods and services.  Aptly named illegal aliens by the millions lined up for health care and other services.  More and more the United States became a hodgepodge of people without a similar culture or language.  They divided themselves into groups each competing against the others for the ever shrinking wealth of the nation.

We will examine what would make a nation refuse to utilize its own natural resources.  It will be clear that if the United States had used its own resources it would have survived much longer.  It was a nation that sent a substantial amount of its wealth overseas to countries that were not friendly, while at the same time refusing to use the resources under its own soil.

As we look back on failed nations it is always interesting to note how close they came to taking another path.  As we study the failure of this nation we will see that changing a few votes in their legislative branch could well have sent the country on an entirely different course.  In the case of the United States, however, the most interesting point is likely the extremely rapid decline.  Until that point in history no nation had reached such a peak and fallen to such depths in so short a time.

By focusing on a failed nation with every tool to be successful you should take from this course valuable lessons in self governance.

Feds Sue Arizona

It was very disheartening to hear today that the Federal Government has filed suit against the Arizona immigration law.  What a shame that our federal government not only fails to do its duty, but actively seeks to prevent states from protecting their citizens.

Not in my lifetime have I witnessed a federal government actively working to destroy our nation.  Not since reconstruction has the federal government actually worked to cause its citizens harm.

We are rapidly approaching the situation that existed prior to the War Between The States.  If states do not act to control the federal government we are doomed since it is clear the federal government will not control itself.

This time it will not be the South acting alone.  We will be joined by states in the southwest and northwest.  The states are the final line of defense against a federal government that is clearly acting against the interests of the very citizens it claims to protect.

Immigrants are clearly an important part of what makes this nation what it is today.  I am not against immigrants, but surely we have the right to protect our own borders.  Not only people wanting to work come across the border, but drug smugglers, terrorists, and criminals as well.

The federal government is routinely failing to provide the services it is mandated by the Constitution to provide while increasing its power in areas it has no authority.  Where are we headed?  Take a look at Greece.  Is that what you want our country to be?  I pray not.

Check Out That New RV Before Taking It Home

Over a period of several months we attended an RV Show, visited several dealers and spent quality time in various units. After settling on a Class C we drove one identical to the one we wanted. (The unit we wound up purchasing was not at the dealer at that time.) Prior to accepting our unit we conducted a thorough walk through and also drove it. Buying a new unit gives us some comfort since the unit is under warranty. However, before leaving we ran every system and moved everything that could be moved. We used the RV with and without shore power and in general put it through its paces.

To give you an idea of how things can go wrong; we spent some hours learning about and operating systems. The radio was clearly marked Sirius Ready. It was the one thing I didn’t check on prior to leaving the dealership. According to Jayco, Sirius Ready, doesn’t mean the radio is ready. It means the radio is ready for you to purchase several items to make it ready. I will complain, but it is my slip up that let this happen. So again, I say, check everything.

An RV has allowed us to go places we would not have gone without one. We have been in 48 States and several Canadian Provinces. The experiences we’ve had make RVing our favorite mode of travel.

Compare Insurance and Financing Costs For New RV

Then of course there is for most of us the question of financing.  Once again the Internet is a good place to start.  I checked the rates at Bank of America where we had financed our first RV.  I also talked with my local bank.  Armed with that information I let the dealer see what they could do and wound up with a 5.99 per cent interest rate for 180 months.  This rate is very competitive.

Insurance is another matter to be considered.  As an example, we will be paying a little over $800 per year for insurance on our new Class C.  When you drive your brand new RV off the dealer’s lot it will substantially depreciate.  An accident could leave you financially upside down.  Having replacement insurance provides more protection.  When comparing rates be certain to check with companies that do a great deal of RV insurance.  The company that provides your homeowners and auto insurance may do very little insuring of RVs and therefore not have a product that really protects you.  GMAC and Progressive both do a lot of RV insurance and while I’ve had both of them, I currently use GMAC.

As we continue discussing the purchase of a new RV you can see that there are a lot of costs.  This all goes back to the first decision you need to make and that is whether an RV is a good use of your money.  Check out my web site and you will see some great pictures we have taken while on RV trips.  We wouldn't have seen these beautiful places without the RV.

How Much To Pay For Your RV?

A question often asked and seldom answered to my satisfaction is how much should you pay for an RV or to put it another way what type of discount can you expect to get off the MSRP? When buying a car it is relatively easy to determine the dealer cost, but such is not the case for RVs. After weeding your choices down to one or two you can again hit the internet. You will find some dealers advertising a discounted price on line. Check dealers all over the country, because you are only interested in getting an idea about price.

If you are able to find forums on the internet that relate to the particular unit you want to purchase it is a good place to ask. I spent several months on the Yahoo Rialta group sites (3) before purchasing my first RV and gained a tremendous amount of knowledge. In any event expect a substantial discount from MSRP. I’ve seen units with an MSRP of $99,000 quoted at under $70,000. You might find it worthwhile to pay a little more and purchase from a local dealer, if that dealer seems able to provide good service.

I have not discussed buying a used RV though this can save you a lot of money. Many web sites provide good pricing information about used units. I am willing to pay more in order to have the security of a full warranty for at least the first year and in some cases two years. However, if you are able to take a little risk there are bargains galore. There are also a number of companies that will sell you an extended warranty, though that is a subject unto itself.

Scroll toward the bottom of my web site and you will see a link that will get you a tip on saving thousands when buying a new RV.  You will also find some really great RV links.  http://www.keanwriter.com

What Size RV Is Right For You?

Whether a motorized unit (motor home) or a trailer is right for you another big decision relates to the size you need and/or want.  The best way to begin making this decision is to hit the RV Dealers on weekends or whenever you can.  If you live in a large metropolitan area you should have a great deal to see.  Finding a large RV Show is also a plus.  It is worth your time and effort even if you have to travel to one, but make certain there will be plenty for you to see and evaluate.

Comparing a Class A (usually the largest) and a Class B (usually the smallest) and a Class C (you will note the overhang over the cab) is a lot like the old saying about apples and oranges.  One thing you will quickly learn is that, like life, there are trade offs.  If you want all the comforts of home be prepared to get 8 miles per gallon or less.  If you are willing to make do in a smaller unit (they have most of the same amenities only in much less space) then you can improve your gas mileage to as high as 18 to 20 mpg.  Before you decide, spend some time in one.  By that I mean sit and walk around and think about how you would cook, use the shower, or watch TV.  Where would you store dishes and clothes or whatever you would be taking along.

If possible drive a variety of sizes and determine how comfortable you are with each.  No matter how nice that 40 footer is, if you don't want to drive it, you won't.  Buying an RV is an expense, but buying one you do not use is simply a waste of money.

Trailer or Motorhome?

After you determine how much you can afford the answer to the question trailer or motor home may be made for you.  Buying a trailer is much cheaper than buying a motorized unit.  It doesn't take an Einstein to figure out why.  When you buy a motorized unit you are buying a truck and a house.

If you can go either way then you need to take a look at how you will be using the RV.  Is the trip itself part of your enjoyment or are you the type of person who just wants to get there?  If you have a motorized unit all of the amenities are yours to use by pulling to the side of the road or parking.  If you have a trailer it is much easier to use the various amenities after you arrive at your destination.

If you own a truck or even an SUV or minivan in some cases, that will pull a trailer then that is one way to save a bundle.  And you can see how many folks with a motorized unit wind up towing a car, so you are just reversing that process.

Just after figuring out what you can afford comes the next decision, whether to buy a trailer or a motorized unit.  This was quite easy for us because I can’t pull much with my subcompact and we enjoy being able to just pull over and have the amenities readily available.

Each person's situation and enjoyment is unique so there are no answers that apply to all.  Read more at the web site It's A Kean World.

Know What RV You Can Afford

The first decision is whether to purchase an RV, but after that comes what you want and what you can afford. The absolute best advice that I can give is to know what you can afford first. You will be better off having a slightly less opulent camper if you can comfortably deal with the costs. Overspending will result in the RV becoming a burden and you won't have the fun you dreamed about.

Think about how much you can put down and what monthly payments you can comfortably make including insurance and parking fees, leaving room for traveling money. Don't forget the cost of a tag. The tag for my class C in Alabama is going to cost around $800.

Also put something aside to stock your RV the way you want it. This might include silverware, dishes, towels, extra toiletries, and assorted items to keep your RV clean as well as a variety of tools.

Finally, and this is important, put aside at least a few hundred dollars for those unexpected things that you will absolutely, positively want to buy.

Don't overspend and your RV will be a great asset for your entire family.

Is An RV Right For You

An RV is an expensive investment that will not appreciate in value. In other words, no matter how you slice it an RV is going to cost you money. Make certain that this is where you want to spend your hard earned income.
A recreational vehicle, like any equipment, has to be maintained. That means washing, changing oil, preparing it for winter, protecting it when stored, repairing what isn't working and in general keeping it in shape for your use.
Many suggest, and I certainly do not disagree, that one way to learn about RVs is to rent one at least for a weekend. This experience will likely hook you on RVing or send you packing, but that is the purpose. A week would be even better. It will also help you determine what size is right for you. The experience of hooking, unhooking and dumping will bring home the realities of RV life.

I have heard of so many stories about people who spent many thousands of dollars to purchase an RV and took one or two trips before parking it. After a year or two of just sitting they decide to sell it and this costs them a lot of money.

We love taking trips in an RV. It is a kind of freedom and convenience we haven't found in any other mode of travel. But what we love and what you love may be entirely different things. Before making such a large investment, commit yourself to using your RV.

If it is right for you then the money will be well spent.

What Does Ready Mean to JAYCO?

It was right there in front of the RV, just like it was supposed to be. It has GPS, AM, FM, backup camera and DVD and I thought it was Sirius Ready. I thought that because the radio has a sign attached to it that says: "Sirius Ready." So when checking all the gadgets on the RV, I didn't call Sirius to subscribe since I knew that I had a Sirius Ready radio as promised by JAYCO and I could subscribe at any time.

Not so fast English reader. I checked with Merriam Webster who defines the word ready as follow: 1 a : prepared mentally or physically for some experience or action b : prepared for immediate use 2 a : willingly disposed : inclined b : likely to do something indicated
3 : displayed readily and spontaneously 4 : immediately available

Please take special note of 1b: prepared for immediate use and 4: immediately available. That was, in fact my take on the words attached to the radio in my new JAYCO RV. Yes, immediately available.

Upon arriving at home in my new RV I was preparing to call Sirius to have them start my service on my Sirius ready radio when I discovered ready means only that it is ready to have some more parts installed to become ready. In other words in spite of Mr. Webster's definitions, in the world of JAYCO ready ain't ready.

I pass this on to you in case you are thinking of buying a JAYCO RV. If ready doesn't mean ready, one might wonder if two year waranty means two years or if JAYCO has another definition of that as well.
